Surviving Retail: A f#%ng Nickel

So, I'm finishing up at the register as we're about to close, and a white old man asks if I can do a return for him. By this point I've done several, and had no issue with anyone... Except of course the guy who wanted to return opened pen ink. But that story has already been told.

Anyway, tonight I had to ask my manager to open up the register for... a nickel. This man's bill had been $33.34 and he had asked for a nickel because I did not know you always had to round up for uneven change. So, when I only gave him three dimes, he responded that he was missing a nickel. To which I responded with the fact that I had already closed the register, and this man stood there and said "so, if they pay can I get my nickel?"

So I answered honestly "I can try."

Guess he was a fan of Nickelback.

This man knew how to put pressure on people, since he stood there staring at me to finish up with the next customers. -Maybe he was a raven in his previous life, waiting for his shinny nickel.- I felt my blood flowing away from my face when he just kept staring at me... Waiting for a nickle

I had to ask my supervisor to help me open up the cash since I am but a humble cashier, with a minimal amount of power. He did, I gave the man his nikl, and now I hate the word, the coin, and giving out change... But specially I hate that man, that rude, petty, white, old, entitled man.

All for a f*$ng nickel(le) (However the F*ck you spell it.)

Morale of the story? When in doubt, round up for change.
